Everybody knows the famous Stonehenge in the UK, but a few people know about the America’s Stonehenge. This archaeological site about 4000 years old is located in New Hampshire. It’s about one hour driving from Boston.
What makes this place intriguing?
Nobody knows exactly who built it. It’s believed that Native American did and that they were knowledgeable in Astronomy. In fact, The site itself is arranged in a way that the solstice can be seen. The site was first known as “Mystery Hill.” until 1982. It is believed that some sacrifices took place in the “Sacrificial Stone.” If you want to know more, there at least two books that I know : 1) America’s Stonehenge: The Mystery Hill Story and 2) America’s Stonehenge Deciphered.
What can you see there?
Right at the entrance there is a Sundial. You can stand up in the center with a a tall stick (provided) and the shadow will give you the exact time. There are Alpacas which is also an attraction in this place. Kids will love it.
