This is a unique restaurant that combines the beauty of New England scenic view, a rich history of mill and the role they play in the region, and a good taste of food. The moment visitors step in the ground, they will be transported right away into a magical scenic view.
It all started in 1761, the Old mill was a sawmill to process lumber to satisfy the local needs of wooden water pipes, and equipment for local farmers in the area of Westminster. Over a span of five years, the mill constantly changed ownership and finally fell into disrepair around 1900.
In 1921, the legendary sawmill became a tearoom where locals congregated and enjoyed a hot chocolate and hot tea in winter season. Operations were ceased in 1942 due to war restrictions.
The Old Mill remained silent and in despair until Ralph and Ruth Fostered acquired it in 1946 and transformed it into fully operational restaurant all year-round.
Today, besides enjoying great New England recipes, visitors have a rustic and elegant ambience, scenic view such as a waterfall, a cover bridge, ducks and swans swimming in the pond.
The restaurants host events such as weddings, special events and mystery dinner among others.
p.s I visited this place on April 2019. Due to COVID-19 the restaurant is temporarily closed until May 18, 2020 or once it is safe for the commonwealth of Massachusetts to get back to business.
