Considered one of the oldest & largest antiquarian in America and located just a few steps away from Boston Commons is the Brattle Book Shop. It’s a family-owned business founded in 1825 and currently has about 250,000 books in addition to postcards, maps etc. I found particularly interesting an old almanac print from 1872 featuring the weather forecast for a year!
Customers will find used books in the first two floors and the antiquarian collection in the third floor. One of the walls features Dr. Seuss character widely known as the “Grinch.” My favorite part is actually outside the store, an open and adjacent sale floor crammed in a two brick buildings. The books are stored in shelves engraved in the brick-walls and when the store is closed an imaginary book store is created…
This is just a charming and beautiful bookstore in the heart of Boston and a visit is well worthwhile.
